The Visionary Behind Lamar Construction Group
Meet Our Founder
Wayne Scantling’s journey in engineering and construction reflects a lifetime of innovation, expertise, and dedication. A Mechanical Engineering graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in his hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina, Wayne pursued advanced studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts and the University of Central Florida. His early career included a prestigious position at NASA Langley Research Center, where he worked under Mary Jackson, one of the renowned “Hidden Figures.”
Wayne’s professional path led him to Raytheon Electronics Corporation, followed by 13 years at Martin Marietta Aerospace (now Lockheed Martin), where he served as a Staff Engineer in Precision Mechanical Design. He then joined Walt Disney World as a Principal Engineer and Senior Manager, overseeing the development of ride and show systems for Disney projects worldwide.
In 2007, Wayne followed his lifelong dream of designing and building homes, earning his professional engineering and general contractor licenses. He founded Lamar Construction LLC, which evolved into Lamar Construction Group, Inc. in 2017. Today, his design/build firm specializes in residential and light commercial projects, helping clients turn their visions into reality. Inspired by the biblical story of Nehemiah, Wayne is committed to building with purpose, passion, and integrity.
